I got home late last night, and saw that someone thought the trees across the street from my house needed some sanitary, uh, wiping.This morning, I saw the full impact of the tree hygiene exercise.
I hope the kid that lives there doesn't get into any trouble over this, because, you see, he is very special, as noted on his school's website:
Valedictorian and Co-Salutatorians
The Class of 2009 valedictorian is Kevin Jain. Jain achieved a 4.88 GPA and will attend Harvard University in the fall. Besides excelling in academics, Jain ran track and cross country. He was also a member of the school’s robotics and debate teams, served as president of National Honor Society, founded Santa Margarita’s chapter of Junior Statesmen of America and started the First Annual Trinity League Food Drive, which resulted in 8,564 pounds of food being donated to Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County.
That GPA happened to be the highest in his class. His sister was valedictorian of her class just two years ago as well.
No doubt these kids are very bright, but it also shows what can happen when there are two loving parents at home guiding their children to embrace what is the right thing over the long haul, vs.parents more worried about two BMWs in the garage and who has the latest iPod. You see it all over the place: Instant gratification vs. a future.
It brightens the spirit and lets me know that there are hard-working kids with families behind them who will take care of the mess we are currently heading towards. With all I read in the news, I was beginning to lose faith that we are still turning out the best and the brightest.
